Events
Berhan School holds and hosts events throughout the year involving our students' participation.
Our students are encouraged to volunteer at these events to allow a space for their creativity. Our students participate by creating art, poem or play for different fundraising events for projects in Ethiopia. In addition, we are building a personal relationship with Ethiopia and Berhan School Students.
Berhan Cultural & Education Center Honored by the Nova Scotia Legislature
The Berhan Cultural & Education Center (BCEC) is proud to share that our organization has received official recognition from the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Dr. Lisa Lachance, MLA for Halifax Citadel-Sable Island, read an official statement into Hansard honoring the vital impact Berhan makes across the province.
The statement highlights Berhan's ongoing role since 2018 as a cultural and educational hub for Ethiopian and Eritrean families in Halifax. It specifically recognized our commitment to:

Teaching children their native languages and preserving cultural heritage.

Engaging the community through traditional cooking and programming.

Launching our new age-friendly community programs to support our older population.

Organizing cultural milestones, including African Heritage Month and the 129th anniversary of Adwa Victory Day.
On June 24, 2026, representatives from the Berhan Center attended a social reception hosted at the Legislature building to formally receive the framed certificate.
This milestone is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated parents, youth, and volunteers. We look forward to continuing our mission of building community, preserving heritage, and inspiring the future.
Imhotep Science Experiment at our Center
We had a blast hosting Imhotep Legacy Academy at our center. Berhan students enjoyed the elephant toothpaste and pocket rocket experiments. We plan to host ILA more frequently to boost our students' interest in science.
Fundraising
Berhan School holds and hosts different fundraising events throughout the year that involve our students' participation. All the funds raised are used for other projects in Ethiopia. Read more
Black History Month
We also have an annual event during Black History Month where students participate in discussions with different professionals regarding Black history and contribution.
